The word Sports, games and exercise are all inter-related with the word, HEALTH. It is rightly said: A wise man should consider that health is the greatest of all human blessings, and should learn how by his own thought to derive benefit from his illnesses.

You are probably familiar with the exceptional benefits of playing a game. Regardless of one’s age and physical ability, games that people select in order to increase their mental and physical skills while enjoying the excitement. But since games are played primarily for the mere enjoyment they offer, some people tend to consider them unnecessary and a waste of time. Nothing could be further away from the truth. Games increase a person’s capabilities and assist in developing a better understanding of ourselves. Games can also have an educational nature. Most importantly, games can affect a person’s psychological state leading to excitement and the feeling of one being proud for an accomplishment. Games are not a waste of free time. Actually free time is the time, one should devote in exploring his or her abilities through games and have fun in educating and exercising his or her body and mind.

It is true, that a person starts playing (exercising) when it is still in mother’s womb. Till the time the foetus doesn’t show any movement or in that matter does not play, it will not emerge out to be a healthy child or even have the risk of survival.

When the child has entered this world, then it starts playing on his own that involves in small activities like playing with their hands or feet, when it starts crawling or walking, its arena of games becomes broader. After this the child enters into the outer world – school, neighborhood, siblings, cousins, where he plays with them and learns many things like working in groups, rules to be followed and even how to regulate himself and the most important lesson of life ie to be PATIENT. Then the child specializes in a particular sport and learns the spirit of sportsmanship and the minutest details of a particular sport, in which he tries to earn name and fame.

Generally, he enters into a game that consists of a goal that the players try to reach and usually has a set of rules within which a person has to succeed accomplishing the desired objective. These commonly agreed boundaries exist so as to test peoples’ skills and invite them to develop new ways in managing the obstacles that might hinder them from attaining the game’s goal.

There is usually a winner and a looser and whether a participant belongs to the one or to the other side of this simple distinction makes all the difference in the world. Thus let’s all try to keep up the spirit of the games:

‘Whenever you get knocked down in the game of life, immediately get up, get better and get going again. Where I was born and where and how I have lived is unimportant. It is what I have done with, where I have been, that should be of interest.’

Therefore, it’s no longer a question of playing but playing healthy and also how to drive away the sickness in you.
